Foundation of private quarters for inmate conjugal visits laid at Asseyri Prison

Maldives Correctional Service has laid the foundations of private quarters for inmate conjugal visits at AsseyriPrison.

The foundations of the two two-room apartments were laid by the Director of Asseyri Prison, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Hussain.

Maldives Correctional Service resolved to build these quarters to tackle the current limitations in offering conjugal visits to married inmates at the Prison. Once built, these quarters will offer a healthier atmosphere for visitations for both inmates and families.

Maldives Correctional Service has stated that the building is expected to be completed in about a month and all the construction work is being carried out by the inmates.

Asseyri Prison is one of the prisons under Maldives Correctional Service working to rehabilitate inmates for successful reintegration into the community. As such, inmates at the prison are taught productive work such as agricultural farming, handicraft work, chicken and goat farming as well as allowed to work at some businesses at Himmafushi.
