Maldives Correctional Service has stated that the renovations on the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of Asseyri Prison are progressing swiftly.
The renovations are being carried out by the inmates of Asseyri Prison under the supervision of Prison Officers. These inmates are recruited and given an allowance for their work. The Director of Asseyri Prisons Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Hussain informs that the work will be completed within 30 days.
Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham had decided to close down SPU for renovations on 04th April 2016 as per the advice given by the Minister of Home Affairs Honourable Umar Naseer following an inspection of Asseyri Prison by the Inspector of Correctional Service Mohamed Ibrahim.
