Maafushi Prison and Emergency Support Group (ESG) Officers have today donated items to the Home for People with Special Needs at K. Guraidhoo.
The donation programme was organised as part of the activities planned to celebrate the anniversary of Maafushi Prison and Emergency Support Group (ESG).
The items were officially handed over Chief Executive Officer of Home for People with Special Needs Ahmed Liushan by Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal at a special ceremony held to commemorate the occasion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner stated that Maldives Correctional Service had organised such a programme because residents at the Home should have love, care, empathy, attention and security and our officers will try their best to fulfil whatever needs that the people at the Home may have.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that he would endeavour to continue with such programmes for Maldives Correctional Service in the future.
Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Liushan said that the residents of the Home are people with special needs who were brought to the Home because they did not have anyone to look after them and thanked Maldives Correctional Services for donating the items to the residents. Liushan also said that there are 167 residents at the Home, out of which 128 are psychiatric patients and there were 124 staff to care for all the residents.
The items donated to the Home include bed sheets, towels, detergent, shower gel and clothes.
The ceremony was also attended by commissioned officers of Maldives Correctional Service and many officers of Maafushi Prison and ESG.
After the ceremony was concluded, the officers spent time with the residents and also presented them with fruit baskets to brighten their day.
