The Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Honorable Ali Ihsan, officially inaugurated the newly-installed Baggage Screening Machine at Maafushi Prison of the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) today.

The Baggage Screening Machine, donated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), aims to enhance the security infrastructure of the Prison. This marks the first time such technology has been deployed at Maafushi Prison.


While technical training on the operation of the Machine was provided by Maldives Airports Company Limited; specialised training for baggage screening procedures were conducted by Maldives Customs Service.

The Baggage Screening Machine will be utilised to screen the belongings of newly-admitted inmates and remanded persons, items sent by their families, as well as the personal effects of individuals visiting for family and conjugal visits.
