MCS signs MOU with IGMH to provide teleconsultations to the incarcerated

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to conveniently provide doctor consultations via technology.

The Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Uz Ibrahim Mohamed Didi and senior officials of MCS met with senior officials of IGMH today regarding the MOU.

The MOU was signed on 01st April 2021 for a period of one year.

The purpose of signing the MOU is to tackle the difficulties MCS faces in getting appointments for routine and specialist consultations to inmates and remanded persons and to provide medical care in a speedier pace.

Under the MOU, the teleconsultation for the incarcerated will be carried out via Google Meet and the medical history of the patient will be forwarded to the doctor one hour prior to the teleconsultation. IGMH has also agreed to prioritise the subsequent investigations and such depending on their capacity.

The arrangement of such services will prove to be a huge convenience, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic as providing essential medical care while ensuring the safety of inmates and remanded persons remain one of the top priorities of MCS.
