The Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal has yesterday visited the site of the new workshop being built for inmates at Maafushi Prison.
Once completed, the new workshop will house state-of-the-art machinery and can accommodate 150 inmates, said DCP. He further said that through the new workshop, inmates will be taught various skills and their work is expected to be speedier and more productive than before.
As per Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Abdulla Ameen, the new workshop will have rooms for woodwork, sewing, art, handicrafts, welding work as well as metal work and a laundry room.
Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service continues to conduct various rehabilitative programmes for inmates.
