Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan has today met with the Executive Director of Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST),Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza.
The meeting was held at the Head Office of Maldives Correctional Service.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the International Human Rights Day. The Commissioner noted ICOST’s role in inducting prison officers to human rights and requested ICOST to develop and conduct information programmes on human rights for those currently serving sentences at the prisons over the next year. The Commissioner also shared the slogan under which the human rights induction programmes were to continue:
“To Assure Human Rights by Ensuring Human Rights within Prisons.”
Commissioner Shihan also said to widen the information sessions currently being conducted with the help of Maldives Human Rights Commission.
The meeting was also joined by Faculty of Education Head, First Class Prison Officer Mohamed Nishwan.
