Discussions have been held today at Asseyri Prison about conducting Juvenile Rehabilitation Programmes at the Prison for under 18-year-old children who commit crime.
The main points of discussion include how to carry out the programmes, the steps to be taken to carry it out in a continuous manner and how to get the most appropriate solutions to issues facing these youngsters. Asseyri Prison had shared the difficulties in conducting such programmes.
The main areas discussed to be included are education, religious studies, creating awareness in different areas, teaching skills in various fields, foot drilling in order to teach discipline and basic fitness test to keep them fit and promote good health.
The Head of the Programmes Section of Maldives Correctional Service, Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Shaheen Ali said that full cooperation and assistance was essential to execute such programmes most effectively.
Asseyri Prison noted that Juvenile Rehabilitation Programmes was an important and necessary programme.
In addition to the Head of the Programmes Section, the meeting was joined by his staff, the Deputy Director of Asseyri Prison, Chief Prison Officer Ahmed Jadulla and the senior management team of Asseyri Prison.
