Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service has today begun the fourth batch of Certificate 2 in Custodial Supervision Course at Asseyri Prison and Male’ Prison.
The 15-week Course is targeted for prison officers in ranks of Sergeant and Staff Sergeant. The second batch is compiled of officers from Asseyri Prison, Maafushi Prison, Male’ Prison, Head Office and Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and add up to a total of 39 officers.
The Course modules include the ideal way of operating minimum, medium and maximum security units, how to maintain security system, the benefits entitled to the inmates and the procedures of providing these benefits as well as the rights of the inmates as mandated by the law. In addition, how to act in emergency situations is taught during the course as well as clarifying the authority given to the officers and how to use the authority.
Maldives Correctional Service informs that the first batch of Certificate 2 in Custodial Supervision Course is currently underway at Maafushi Prison while the Certificate 3 in Custodial Supervision Course has been approved by the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) and preparations are underway to commence the course soon.
