Seven courses underway at Maafushi Prison to rehabilitate inmates

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) is currently conducting seven courses to rehabilitate inmates.

The rehabilitation programmes are conducted by Maldives Correctional Service under the Act 14/2013 “Maldives Prisons and Parole Act” with the aim of reforming inmates to reduce crime and to reintegrate them back to the society as good citizens.

Hence the courses currently in progress are Qirat course level 1,2 & 3, Certificate 2 in Office Package, Basic Quran class, Hifz class and Islam classes to prepare participants for SSC exam. A total of 194 inmates are participating in these courses.

The Qirat courses, Basic Quran Class and Hifz classes are conducted in association with Institute for Quran and Sunnah.

In addition, Maldives Correctional Service is also conducts courses such as levels of sewing courses, wood carving, lacquer work, stocking flower, crafting of small dhoni, starting agriculture and pastry courses for inmates.

These rehabilitation programmes will help inmates to change and improve their thinking, behaviour and actions for the better, and also teach them solid skills to earn an honest living after they are released back to the society.
