Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has stated that the construction work on industrial zone prayer room and mess room for inmates at the Asseyri Prison is progressing swiftly.

MCS said that building a prayer room and mess room at the industrial zone will save time for inmates and officers as well as increase the time spent at work. MCS also said that since there is a difficulty in storing farmed goods in the industrial zone; work is also being done to build a storage facility in the area and will be a great convenience for all involved.

The construction work of the buildings are being carried out by the Prison Officers and inmates of Asseyri Prison, while the sand required for the construction is being extracted by the inmates under the supervision of officers. MCS informs that sand is extracted from the Himmafushi reef with the permission of the Council to reduce costs and is extracted by diving.

In addition, a class room and quarters for conjugal visits for inmates are also being built at Asseyri Prison.
