Institute for Correctional Service (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service has awarded certificates to inmates who completed the “Certificate level 1 in computer application” course at a ceremony held today. The courses were conducted at prisons with the assistance from Centre for Information Technology (CITM).
Speaking at the ceremony chief guest of the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Finance and Treasury Mr Abdul Aleem Abdul Ghafoor said that proof of knowledge is not a certificate; it is defined by a person’s behaviour. He also advised all inmates to maintain the good behaviour when they get released.
Executive Director of ICOST Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza said that there are several such courses being conducted at present; including lacquer work and Quran coaching classes.
The ceremony was also attended by the Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal, Director of Maafushi Prison Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Shaheen Ali and senior officials of Maldives Correctional Service.
The course is part of the rehabilitative programmes designed to educate and teach skills in order to prepare them for reintegration into the society. The course was completed by 99 inmates from Maafushi Prison and 45 inmates from Asseyri Prison.
