Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) and Hulhumale’ Development Corporation (HDC) have today planted a record number of 13,000 trees under the Fehivehi Programme. The trees were planted at the Hulhumale’ phase two area following a special ceremony held to mark the occasion.
The event was carried out at an area 2985 feet long and 572 feet wide and was the first time so many trees were planted at the Hulhumale’ phase two area at an event.
The chief guest of the event was Minister of Environment and Energy Honourable Thoriq Ibrahim. The ceremony was graced by the presence of prominent figures such as Prosecutor General Uz Muhthaz Muhusin, Senior Judge of Criminal Court Uz Abdulla Mohamed and few honourable members of the Parliament. Maldives Correctional Service was represented by Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal and commissioned officers. On behalf of HDC, Managing Director Mohamed Saimon and board members had attended the ceremony.
The event was participated by many officers and staff from prisons and Head Office as well as some inmates. The event was also joined by various offices and institutions including schools at Hulhumale’.
The tree-planting event is the first programme carried out under “Fehivehi” and more community programmes are in the planning for future.
