An inmate serving a lengthy sentence at Hulhumale’ Prison of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) Hassan Niyaz (45 years old), of Dhiggaagasdhoshuge, S. Hithadhoo, has passed away this afternoon while being treated at Hulhumale’ Hospital.
Following a sudden medical emergency this afternoon, he was rushed to Hulhumale’ Hospital at 13:30 and started treatment promptly. The doctors pronounced him deceased at 14:05 hrs.
In accordance with standard procedure following the death of an inmate, Maldives Police Service, the family of the deceased, the Inspector of Correctional Service, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, and the National Integrity Commission were notified about the occurrence.
