The first batch of training programme conducted jointly with UNODC on “The Nelson Mandela Rules” concludes

The first batch of the training programme conducted jointly with UNODC and Ministry of Home Affairs on “The United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (The Nelson Mandela Rules)” for prison officers has concluded today.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training, Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu specially thanked UNODC and Ministry of Home Affairs. He also requested participants to make use of the training to the fullest.

A total of 38 officers from prisons and Head Office participated in the training programme, which commenced on 20th September 2020.

The training programme included modules on “The Nelson Mandela Rules”, such as an overview of the Rules, prison conditions, prison regime, safety and security, healthcare and safeguard. Officers also had to do an assignment based on the modules in order to pass the training.

The training programme was taught by UNODC consultant Ms. Aida Mnyolmo.
