Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan has yesterday inaugurated the “Prisco Escort Challenge Cup 2016” organised by the Escort Team of Maldives Correctional Service.
A total of nine teams are to participate in the tournament, which is to be held at the Maafannu Stadium’s futsal ground.
While speaking at the ceremony, Escort Team’s Commander Staff Sergeant Hussain Nadheem said that he hoped that all officials and players will work to make “Prisco Escort Challenge Cup 2016” into a successful one.
The purposes of the Tournament are to create friendliness and sports spirit among officers and staff of Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office; to engage them in sports activities and to provide the opportunity for football players to show their skill. In addition, the tournament will also help to maintain the mental and physical health of staff and officers at Male’ Prison, Hulhumale’ Detention Centre and Head Office.
The teams in each group will play against each other and the leading two teams of each group will move on to the semi-finals to play against the rival group’s two leading teams. The two winning teams of the semi-finals will move on to the finals to fight for the trophy, while the second runner-up team will be chosen after a match between the two losing teams of semi-finals.
