MCS holds “Graduation 2017”‎

Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) of Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has last night held a graduation ceremony at Maafushi Prison for inmates who successfully graduated in various courses.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Minister of Home Affairs Honourable Azleen Ahmed.

The graduation ceremony was held for Certificates 1, 2 & 3 n Qirat, Certificate 1 in Sewing, Certificate 1 in Starting Agriculture and Certificate 1 in House Wiring and Electrician Course.

In addition to awarding certificates to the graduates, certificates and medals were also awarded to the inmates who achieved higher distinction in the above-mentioned courses. A total of 186 certificates were awarded at the ceremony, including 63 higher distinction certificates.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of ICOST, Chief Prisons Officer Ahmed Riza had thanked all the people without whom it would not be possible to successfully execute such programmes. He especially thanked the Institute for Quran and Sunnah’s Chairman Mr Abdulla Saeed and his teachers and staff for their invaluable contribution to the programmes.

“Tonight’s graduation ceremony proves that learning is possible and should be done at any place and under any circumstances. And we also get the message that they want to reform and live as good people in the community. I advise that you all would go forward with that aim and gain success in this world and after.”

Mr Mohamed Adheel, who won the National Award for special achievement in social services, spoke about his struggle with drugs to give further inspiration and motivation to the inmates. He said that due to his addiction to drugs, he lost his family and friends and his life had gone haywire. But after completing a programme at the Rehabilitation Centre, he was strongly determined to succeed and took the opportunity that fortunately came his way; and today he has gained unimaginable success and a happy family life.

The ceremony was attended by Commissioned Officers and Prison Officers of Maldives Correctional Service as well as invited guests.
