Asseyri Prison of Maldives Correctional Service has opened a new fire shed and a two-room apartment for conjugal visits for inmates.
The two buildings were inaugurated by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan at a ceremony held yesterday morning at the Prison.
The newly-opened fire shed is designed to house all the equipment necessary to prevent and tackle any fire-related incidents that may occur at Asseyri Prison; while the newly-opened two-room apartment was completed to provide a place for married inmates to have conjugal visits with their spouses.
The ceremony was also joined by Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zilaal, Deputy Director of Asseyri Prison Chief Prison Officer Ahmed Jadulla, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Ibrahim Nashid, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Tholaal and several officers of Asseyri Prison.
