Maldives Correctional Service strives to rehabilitate inmates and to improve their behaviour and lifestyle by providing them with good education by conducting various programmes. Several courses on Islam and Quran are conducted through Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) to orient and foster religious knowledge in inmates. In that regard, the fourth batch of Qirat Course Level 2 and Basic Quran Class commenced yesterday at Maafushi Prison.
A total of 22 inmates have participated in the four-month Qirat Course level two, while the five-week Basic Quran Class has 35 participants.
The participants of Qirat Course level 2 will be taught the makhraj and characteristics of all the letters of Arabic alphabet, the regular makhraj and particulars, how to properly pronounce the diacritics (i’ijam, tashkeel and harakat), to recite with with makhraj from Surat Al-Naba to Surat Al-Nasi and byheart with makhraj from Surat Al-Qashiyah to Surat Al-Nasi.
The Basic Quran Class includes teaching how to move the participants’ mouths to properly pronounce the diacritics (i’ijam, tashkeel and harakat), makhraj of all the letters of Arabic alphabet and to practice reciting the Holy Quran as per the kalimas. The participants who successfully complete the Basic Quran Class will have the opportunity to join Qirat Course level 1.
The two courses are conducted in collaboration with Institute for Holy Quran and Sunnah.
