Commissioner of Prisons meets with commissioned officers

Commissioner of prisons has met with all commissioned officers today.

The purpose of this meeting was to check and advise on the improvement of services rendered to the prisoners, and the development of other services provided by the prison officers, as a new presidential term was about to start. Furthermore, the achievements of this body during the past 12 years and methods to be adopted in order to strengthen the service were also discussed in the meeting.

During the meeting the commissioner highlighted that the aim of rehabilitation was to reintroduce the prisoners to the community with grace, and furthermore, it was a request of the commissioner to the officers to shape the programs in such a way that they would not get back to the jail. Also, to improve the quality of evaluation when newly prisoner was brought, and he threw light over the ways to develop the work in acknowledging the most suitable program for the individual prisoners. He further stated that no prisoner should be left behind without a program and to assign them the relevant program, considering every prisoner as an important figure.

CP said that the commissioned officers had the most important role in running this authority, are role models for the officers and developers of the office.

The authority could only be well-built by making good governing rules and regulations in a way that the loopholes would be over looked, the commissioner added in the meeting. He also expressed that psychological support and housing scheme should be provided for the officers, as the privileges officers get currently. CP Shihaan further appreciated that PRISCO was working for the welfare of officers. Citing as example, he told that officers and civil employers were able to get medical welfare besides Aasandha.

Furthermore, he disclosed that MCS gets advantages out of international relationships and that MCS had become a member of APCCA (Asia and Pacific conference of correctional administration). He highlighted the importance of such organizations, during the meeting. CP Shihaan stated that it was important to cement bond the relationships with foreign correctional bodies and consequently, more advantages would come on our way.

Deputy commissioner of prisons Hassan Zilaal accompanied the commissioner in this meeting held at the headquarter of Maldives Correctional services. Including all commissioned officers, ESG commanding officers and directors of different prisons also took part in the meeting.
