Male’ Prison’s services began on 17th January

Male’ Prison is the place where people convicted of house arrest, banishment and prison are initially brought to. Also, inmates from other prisons that are brought to Male’ for various reasons are kept at the Male’ Prison until the purpose is fulfilled.

The reception of Male’ Prison is designed to offer services to the families of inmates, such as acceptance of forms for family visits, lawyer visits, conjugal visits as well as handing over of approved forms for the afore-mentioned visits.

17th January 2008 was the day Male’ Prison was inaugurated with a few officers and hence this year marks the 10th anniversary of the prison. Male’ Prison held a flag hoisting ceremony this evening at the Prison to celebrate its anniversary, with Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan as the chief guest. 

The ceremony was joined by the Deputy Commissioner of Prison Hassan Zilaal, Director of Male’ Prison Superintendent of Prisons Moosa Anwar, directors of other prisons,  commissioned officers as well as a large number of officers from Male’ Prison.
